Garden Assistant (Summer Student)

35 hours a week at 16.55/hr (32.5hrs/wk, plus 30min unpaid lunch)

Start as soon as possible. Employment ends August 30th 2024

Duties include but are not limited to:

·         Assist the Garden Coordinator with gardening.

·         Plant and nurture new plants. Harvest and wash produce when ripe.

·         Keep fresh food areas in the food bank stocked with harvested produce.

·         Perform basic maintenance such as managing weed control.

·         Work with, clean and organize all garden equipment/tools and keep the garden clean and tidy.

·         Ensure a safe environment by adhering to safety and health regulations.

·         Help with basic food bank duties when the weather is bad.

The Ideal Candidate:

·         Must be entering or returning to post secondary school in fall 2024

·         Must be under the age of 30 as required by the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

·         The ability to kneel, crouch, bend, reach and lift for prolonged periods of the day.

·         Positive attitude with a willingness to learn.

·         Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

·         Time management and organizational skills.

·         Ability to work well independently and as a team.

·         Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 20lbs.
