Want to be part of an amazing team who makes a significant difference in peoples lives?  Like to work in a safe, supportive environment, so you can do your work the best you can?  Come join Hospice Quinte, looking for PSW’s.  The Personal Support Worker (PSW) reports to the Hospice Resident Manager providing safe, direct hands-on care to clients in the Hospice residence.  Personal Support Worker is key to providing enhanced support to a variety of client populations in palliative care to meet their needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Registered Practical Nurse the PSW provides personal care to clients in supporting activities of daily living and comfort.

PSW observes and documents clinical data in the client’s medical record.

In collaboration with the team contributes to the development and modification of a client’s care plan based on client focused needs and outcomes observed.

Communicates and collaborates with the client, family/care giver, and health team to ensure a positive experience.

Assists the health team and program where needed.

Assists in team building and engages in supporting Hospice Quinte Strategic plan and core values.

Perform administrative clerical tasks such ie. admissions, discharges, answering phone.

External and Internal Relationships:

Frequently communicates and interacts with Registered Practical Nurses and other staff in a positive, respectful manner.

Engages with clients and client’s family members.

Communicates directly with the shift administrative support staff.

Communicates with peers and provides clear shift change reports.

Engages and communicates with manager related to promoting a safe and positive work environment.

Education, Designations and Experience:

Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification.

2+ years recent experience working as PSW.

Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Advance PSW certification in Palliative care / End of life care (preferred).

Experience in Palliative care (preferred).

Certified in gentle persuasive approaches, GPA (preferred).

Skill Requirements:

Understanding of client focused care, able to provide a positive experience for client and family.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated basic observation and problem-solving skills.

Willingness for ongoing learning, skills training, as well as the ability to implement learned skills and behaviors.

Ability to adjust and engage to change in the workplace.

Ability to work effectively and respectfully in a multidisciplinary team, take direction well, and to work independently.

Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Ability to manage time and prioritize work efficiently.


Current criminal background check including a vulnerable sector screen.

Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

Attention to detail; lift and carry using proper lifting techniques; bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; walk, sit, stand, climb stairs; hand movements.  Engage with staff, clients, and families.  Able to cope and support others in high stress situations.  Must follow dress policy.  Must be able to work a variety of 12 / 8-hour shifts, days/evening/nights, weekdays, weekends, holidays.  Able to operate lifting devices and mobility supports, walker, wheelchair.  Demonstrate patience, understanding, and empathy.
