Shiloh House is a six-bed transition house for male-identifying individuals with a maximum stay of 364 days. The program is life skills-based, and the men work towards regaining their independence through employment, training/educational upgrades, and housing.
Kitchen Lead Position – Shelter
You are applying for a Kitchen Lead Position at Grace Inn Shelter. The Kitchen Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the kitchen operations within the shelter. Includes planning and preparing nutritious meals, managing food inventory, ensuring proper storage, and ordering supplies while adhering to budgetary constraints. The Lead supervises kitchen staff and volunteers, consistently meeting health and safety standards. They are also responsible for maintaining cleanliness and ensuring compliance with local regulations regarding food safety. Additionally, the Kitchen Lead collaborates with shelter staff to meet guests dietary needs and creates a supportive, efficient, and organized kitchen environment. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, assemble and cook all menu items.
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, including any prep work, ensuring efficiency and consistency
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including warewashing and sanitation.
- Plan and create weekly menus.
- Manage inventory, monitor stock levels, and coordinate orders with suppliers.
- Reduce waste and optimize ingredient usage for cost efficiency
- Kitchen equipment is maintained, and supplies and food products are ordered to meet food production needs.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.
Minimum Employment Qualifications
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Emergency First Aid and CPR
- Safe Food Handlers Certificate
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, kitchen operations, and health & safety regulations
- Experience in managing inventory, ordering supplies, and minimizing waste
- Ability to lead a small team of volunteers in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, maintaining a positive and efficient kitchen environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
Additional Information
Applicants must have the ability to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis
The working environment can be fast-paced, and the position requires amounts of walking, standing, sitting and lifting daily
This position will report to the Director of Operations and Shelter Coordinator
