STUDENT SUMMER CONTRACT COMMUNITY LIVING WORKER
 

Community Living Upper Ottawa Valley provides supports to persons living with a Developmental Disability in the Cobden, Pembroke, Petawawa, Deep River Areas.  We assist people in achieving their individual outcomes in all facets of their life, facilitate natural connections within a person’s community and work cooperatively with community partners.

 

The Developmental Service Worker plays a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive the care and assistance needed to thrive in their daily lives. This position requires a compassionate and dedicated individual who can effectively communicate and build relationships with clients. The Developmental Service Worker will assist with daily living activities, promote independence, and provide a safe environment for individuals to grow and develop.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

  • Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities in various settings.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging environment that promotes independence and self-esteem.
  • Communicate effectively with others to understand their needs and preferences.
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and other professionals to develop individualized plans.
  • Implement therapeutic activities that enhance social skills, communication abilities, and overall well-being.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and any incidents that may occur.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure a clean and safe environment for all clients.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Candidates will possess at least 1 year of post-secondary education in a Human services or Health Science role (DSW, ECE, SSW, mental health and addictions, psychology, etc.)
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with individuals of varying abilities.
  • Experience in caregiving or working with persons with disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of medication administration practices, or willing to learn.
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR (or willing to obtain).
  • Current vulnerable sector screening (or willing to obtain).

 

Employees are required to work 2 weekends per month on an alternating basis. Shifts vary in length up to 12 hours in duration, and all positions include days and evenings, holidays.

 

WAGE:        $19.50 per hour
