The Centre for Workforce Development (CFWD) is a non-profit organization serving
Renfrew, Lanark, Hastings, Prince Edward and Lennox & Addington Counties. CFWD
provides local labour market insights, supports employer workforce strategies, and
spearheads partnership programs to help students and job seekers gain an understanding of
local employment opportunities, industry hiring trends and in-demand skills. By collaborating
with businesses, educators, government and community partners, CFWD strengthens the
regional workforce, promotes economic growth, and advocates for inclusive, forward-thinking
employment practices.

Job Overview
The Communications, Outreach and Events Specialist will support CFWD’s work through
the planning, development, and delivery of communications, stakeholder outreach,
community engagement, and events across our catchment area.
The successful candidate will help promote CFWD’s initiatives, strengthen public awareness
of labour market information and workforce development activities, support relationships with
community partners, and coordinate events that inform and engage employers, job seekers,
educators, and stakeholders.
This position is ideal for someone with strong written and verbal communication skills,
excellent organizational ability, creativity, and a keen interest in community engagement,
workforce development, and public-facing communications.

Key Responsibilities

Communications
• Develop and distribute communications content for a variety of platforms, including:

o social media
o website updates
o newsletters
o media releases
o promotional materials
o briefing notes
o presentations
o podcasts/video
• Ensure CFWD communications are clear, accurate, professional, and aligned with
organizational branding
• Assist in designing and promoting labour market reports, events, community
initiatives, and partnership activities
• Support the development of storytelling and content that highlights CFWD’s impact
across the region

Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement
• Support outreach activities that build awareness of CFWD’s services, projects, and
workforce development initiatives
• Liaise with employers, educators, service providers, community agencies,
government representatives, and other stakeholders
• Assist in maintaining positive working relationships with partners across CFWD’s
catchment area
• Help coordinate consultation activities, surveys, roundtables, and other community
engagement efforts

Events Coordination
• Assist in planning, organizing, promoting, and supporting events, meetings,
workshops, roundtables, and public engagement activities
• Coordinate event logistics, including scheduling, venue details, registration,
materials, signage, and on-site support
• Support attendance at community events and external partner initiatives on behalf of
CFWD
• Help evaluate event participation and outcomes to support continuous improvement

Administrative and Organizational Support
• Maintain organized communications files, contact lists, event records, and
promotional materials
• Track timelines, deliverables, and outreach activities
• Support the preparation of materials for stakeholders, funders, partners, CFWD staff,
and its Board of Directors
• Perform additional duties as required to support organizational operations

Qualifications

EducationPost-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field such as:

• Communication

• Public Relations
• Marketing
• Event Management
• Business
• Journalism
• Community Development
• Public Administration
• or a related discipline

Experience
• Experience in communications, outreach, stakeholder engagement, event
coordination, or public relations
• Experience creating content for digital and print communications
• Experience in the non-profit, public sector, education, economic development, or
government-funded service environment is considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience with social media platforms, website content management, Canva, or
similar communications and graphic design tools
• Experience with event planning and coordination
• Knowledge of labour market information and workforce development is an asset

Working Conditions

• Hybrid / remote work
• Occasional travel within Renfrew, Lanark, Hastings, Prince Edward, and Lennox &
Addington Counties is required
• Occasional evening/weekend meetings and community events may be required
