This department is responsible for developing and implementing Economic Development, Tourism and Communication strategies for the City. The department is also responsible for the management of all City facilities which includes the day to day operations of our Arenas and Marina. In addition the department will be actively involved with developing and maintaining numerous strategic partnerships with various groups and organizations with whom the City of Quinte West engages.
Purpose and Scope:
The Marina Attendant Student will assist in providing services for the Marina facilities, boaters and Gathering Hall guests.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position will:
– Provide excellent customer service and act as an ambassador of the City of Quinte West.
– Greet customers and answer inquiries.
– Assist boaters with docking their boats, securing their lines and familiarizing them with Marina and City facilities and services.
– Assist with taking reservations for both seasonal and transient boaters.
– Handle cash, use Square POS software, balance cash tills and prepare cash receipts reports in the canteen and at the fuel station
– Assist boaters with mooring their boats, occasionally directing boat traffic, dispensing gas and diesel and providing pump out services while following fuel handling regulations and guidelines.
– Assist in the canteen operation by preparing fryer foods, serving ice cream and preparing breakfast items.
– Always maintain the canteen in a clean and hygienic manner while following food handling guidelines.
– Assist with cleaning, set up, take down and conduct other Gathering Hall event operations, including bartending and serving.
– Assist with custodial and maintenance services throughout the Marina including cleaning public and boaters’ washrooms, boaters’ lounge, Gathering Hall, office, staff room and all other indoor Marina areas.
– Assist with cleaning docks and outdoor Marina areas and deal with garbage and recycling according to Marina guidelines and schedules.
– Assist City Parks staff with weeding gardens and maintaining open spaces when time permits.
– Assist with maintaining Marina basins including removing trash and weeds from water and disposing of in prescribed manner.
– Maintain and operate marina workboat and 20 hp outboard engine.
– Shuttle customers to and from the offsite storage yard and/or provide access as required.
– Work independently and in a team as required to fulfill all job duties.
– May perform basic computer functions including Microsoft Office Suite, Swell Marina Management software and other software from time to time.
– Follow all Marina Standard Operating Procedures at all times.

Internal: Marina Manager, Marina Assistant Manager, Seasonal and Student Marina Attendants and other City staff from time to time.
External: Marina boating customers, Gathering Hall Customers and the general public.
Education/Specialized Training/Skills:
The position will require:
– Registration in a Full Time Post-Secondary School Program and returning in the Fall.
– Demonstrated interpersonal and team skills.
– Ability to lift up to 18 kg/40 lbs.
– Ability to deal courteously and effectively with boaters, Gathering Hall customers, the general public, Marina and City management and staff.
– Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence, SmartServe.
Nice to have:

– Fuel Handling Safety Training
– Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Maritime)
– Pleasure Craft Operator Card
– Food Handler’s Training
– Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification
– The ability to communicate in the French language
Work Experience:
This position requires previous customer service experience.
Nice to have:
Although not required, the following would be considered an asset to the position:
– Experience in boating or recreational marine environment
– Experience working alone
– Experience cooking and cleaning
Decision Making:
This position has minimal responsibility for decision making affecting the department.
Supervision:
Not Applicable
Work Environment:
– Works indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
– Works primarily close to open water, boats and other equipment.
– Works in teams or independently with team members nearby.
– Position is required to work a combination of day shifts, evening shifts and weekends.
