The City of Quinte West invites applications for the following summer student position:
Student Labourer Water & Sewer
Public Works and Environmental Services
The Water & Sewer Labourer is responsible for completing tasks regarding the maintenance for all City parks, sports fields, open space areas, facilities and for the maintenance of parks vehicles and all park and facility related equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position will:
Perform parks, road, water/wastewater duties such as: turf maintenance, horticulture, roadway flagging, hydrant flushing, painting, etc.
Set up for special events. i.e. moving tables, chairs, stages, snow fencing, etc.
Be responsible for general grounds keeping duties as required.
Collect and dispose of garbage and recycling items.
Work independently and perform minor maintenance functions. i.e. equipment repairs, etc.
Operate push lawnmower, power weed eater, and power tools, and understand/apply standard operating procedures.
Maintain municipal landscaped areas. Tasks include planting, edging weeding, cultivating, watering, fertilizing, and using handheld power tools.
Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives.
Education/Specialized Training/Skills:
The position will require:
Registration in a Full Time Post-Secondary School Program and be returning in the Fall.
Ability to lift up to 18 kg/40 lbs.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the general public, rental organizations and staff.
Valid Class G or G2 Driver’s Licence in good standing.
Available for evening shift, weekend shifts, and statutory holidays for most positions.
Nice to have:
Previous experience with parks, water and roads maintenance duties such as: turf maintenance, horticulture, roadway flagging, hydrant flushing, painting, etc. would be considered.
Valid First Aid, CPR, AED & WHMIS certificates.
Ability to verbally communicate in French or another language.
Work Experience:
Not Applicable.
Remuneration: 2024 Student and Part-Time Wages Level 1 – $17.70/hr to $18.45/hr
