The City of Quinte West invites applications for the following summer student position:

Engineering Technician 

Public Works and Environmental Services

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Services, the Engineering Technician Student will provide assistance in the Public Works and Environmental Services Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The position will:

Assists in the development and implementation of tender documents for new construction or rehabilitation of municipal road, bridge, water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.
Assists in the development and review of policies, procedures, standards, plans, and programs governing the Engineering Department.
Collects and compiles data to be entered into the Public Works records database.
Inspects capital projects to confirm compliance with City standards.

Education/Specialized Training/Skills:

The position will require:

Preference will be given to a student who is enrolled in a Civil Engineering Program registered in a Full time Post-Secondary School Program and who will be returning in the Fall.
Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence in good standing.
Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Ability to demonstrate tact and discretion and to deal effectively and courteously in all aspects of the position; to maintain confidentiality, and to foster good rapport and cooperative working relationships.

Nice to have: 

Previous experience and understanding of heavy civil construction.
Strong communication, public relations, and customer service skills, as well as creative abilities and research skills.
Valid First Aid, CPR, AED, WHMIS Certificates.

Work Experience:

Although not required, related experience would be considered an asset.

Remuneration: 2024 Student and Part-Time Wages Level 3 – $20.25/hr to $21.00/hr
