This department is responsible for developing and implementing Economic Development, Tourism and Communication strategies for the City. The department is also responsible for the management of all City facilities which includes the day to day operations of our Arenas and Marina. In addition the department will be actively involved with developing and maintaining numerous strategic partnerships with various groups and organizations with whom the City of Quinte West engages.

 

Facilities 

The Facilities division maintains all municipally owned facilities, including Quinte West City Hall, the Frankford Municipal Office, Trent Port Marina, the Quinte West OPP detachment and the City’s two arenas. It also oversees the City’s team of crossing guards.

 

Purpose and Scope

The Canteen Staff is responsible for providing excellent customer service to the patrons of the Marina as well as assist in the day to day operations of the canteen including preparing food, clean up, counting inventory and counting cash. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide excellent customer service to all patrons of the Marina. 
Unload and stock deliveries.
Maintain the canteen in a clean and hygienic manner while following food handling guidelines.
Assist with custodial and maintenance services throughout the Marina, including cleaning public and boaters’ washrooms, boaters’ lounge, Gathering Hall, office, staff room and all other indoor Marina areas.
Handle cash, use Square POS software, balance cash tills and prepare cash receipts reports in the canteen.
Serve customers by preparing fryer foods such as hot dogs and fries, serving ice cream and preparing breakfast items and selling refreshments such as hot chocolate, coffee, etc.
Conduct inventory counts. 
Perform canteen clean up activities by sweeping floors, filling condiment dispensers, cleaning food preparation equipment, hot chocolate/coffee machine, counters, sinks and microwave, washing dishes and preparing canteen for next day. 
Ensure the canteen is locked and all electrical appliances are turned off when closing the canteen. 
Attend related training and development.
Follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, other applicable legislation, best practices, City policies and procedures.

Education/Specialized Training/Skills:

This position will require:

Exceptional interpersonal skills and a friendly manner.
Basic mathematical skills. 
Accurate recording of data, cash receipts and bank deposits. 
Physical stamina and high energy. 
Good problem solving and attention to detail. 
The ability to demonstrate the highest level of customer service.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work in a busy multi-faceted environment with proficient organizational skills.
 

Although not required, the following would be an asset:

Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
A Certified Ontario Food Handler or equivalent training.  
A valid Class G Driver’s Licence and a safe driving record in good standing, satisfactory to the employer.
 

Work Experience:

This position requires: 

A minimum of six (6) months of experience in a customer service or food service role or a related field. 
 

Decision Making:

This position must make decisions that may impact their safety and the safety of others.

 

Supervision:

Not applicable.
 

Work Environment

Position works primarily with customers of the canteen.
Position primarily works the majority of their time indoors.
This position may be required to work a combination of day shifts, afternoon shifts, evening shifts and weekends.
