Position Summary
The Child Care Nutrition Provider will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering nutritious and safe meals and snacks for NHCS programs. Under the direction of the Child Care Coordinator and Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, the Children’s Nutrition Specialist will ensure meals meet Health Canada guidelines, Ontario’s Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) requirements, and safe food handling standards.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Plan and prepare daily nutritious meals and snacks that meet CCEYA requirements.
• Follow Canada’s Food Guide, Canada’s Food Guide – First Nations, Inuit and Métis, and Nutrition for Healthy Term Infants when planning meals.
• Ensure food is age-appropriate, prepared safely, and served according to Ontario Public Health guidelines.
• Develop and maintain rotational seasonal menus that support nutrition goals and budget constraints.
• Shop for groceries and maintain inventory, ensuring compliance with food safety and storage requirements.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and hygiene, following infection control policies and WHMIS standards.
• Post menus and any updates on Story Park for caregiver accessibility.
• Support special dietary needs, including allergies, food restrictions, and cultural dietary requirements.
• Ensure that allergy and food restriction information is properly posted and followed to prevent cross-contamination.
• Cover short periods in the child-care setting when required.

Requirements
• Food Handler Certificate (required).
• WHMIS Certification.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in cooking and cleaning, preferably in a childcare or healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of food service methods, safe food handling principles, and sanitation practices.
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs as needed.
• Strong time management, multitasking, and organizational skills with minimal supervision.
• Must be free of communicable diseases that may impact job responsibilities.
• Personal vehicle required for grocery shopping and food transportation.

Additional Requirements (Successful Candidate Must Obtain)
• Children’s Aid Society Check.
• Immunization confirmation & health assessment.
• Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License.

Terms & Compensation
• Full-time position (35 hours per week).
• Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
• Probation rate: $21.18/hour, with an increase after one year.
• Eligible for benefits after one month.
