The Opportunity: Are you a student of Geology, Earth Sciences, or Mineralogy looking for more than just a lab job? Lakeside Gems is seeking an Assistant Field Trip Leader to help lead our renowned mineral collecting expeditions. This is a front-line role where you will bridge the gap between academic theory and public education, guiding visitors from across North America through the fascinating geology of the Canadian Shield.
What You Will Do:
- Lead & Educate: Assist in guiding public and private field trips to active and historic mineral sites.
- Mineral Identification: Provide expert ID services for visitors and participants.
- Content Creation: Help document 30 years of site-specific data for our new Field Trip Leader’s Handbook.
- Safety & Stewardship: Ensure all participants follow strict ethical collecting and safety protocols.
- Ambassadorship: Represent the Bancroft region at local events and help maintain our professional geological standards.
Who You Are:
- Knowledgeable: Currently enrolled in (or a recent grad of) a Geology, Mineralogy, or Earth Science program.
- Communicator: You can explain “Gneiss” to a 10-year-old and “Syenite” to a seasoned collector with equal enthusiasm.
- Adventurous: Comfortable working outdoors in various terrain and weather conditions.
- Professional: You understand the importance of liability, land-owner relations, and environmental ethics.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Bonus Points:
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Previous experience in tourism or public speaking.
