Community Support Worker – Community Living Upper Ottawa Valley

Location: Pembroke, Ontario

Wage: $22.56 – $28.38 per hour (CUPE unionized position)

Position Summary

CLUOV is actively involved in the Ottawa Valley to provide adults living with an intellectual disability with the support needed to live their fullest and most extraordinary lives. We are currently hiring for Casual and Part-Time position. Shifts are on a rotating schedule that includes weekends. Shifts vary in length up to 12 hours in duration and include days and evenings, and alternate weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

Promote independence, inclusion, and personal growth for the individuals supported
Provide personal care, including bathing, feeding, oral and personal hygiene
Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and behavioural support plans (BSPs)
Document daily activities and updates using AIMS software
Administer medication and perform controlled medical acts (training provided)
Apply Non-Violent Crisis Intervention techniques (training provided)
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external professionals
Maintain a respectful and professional presence in individuals’ homes
Perform physical tasks including standing, walking, lifting, bending, and driving

Qualifications

Two years of post-secondary education in human, or health sciences is preferred for all positions, however candidates who demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and job training will also be considered.
Current vulnerable sector screening (or willing to obtain)
A valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of vehicle insurance
Current certifications in First Aid, CPR (or willing to obtain)
Proven excellence in working both independently and in a team
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities is an asset, however extensive orientation and training will be provided
Experience with supporting individuals in other ways (i.e. aging parents, family with a history of disabilities and/or mental or physical illnesses)
Bilingualism is an asset, but not necessary
Experience working with dual diagnosis and challenging behaviours
Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and as a productive team member
Commitment to Community Living’s goal and vision
Valid first aid and CPR certification
Valid CPI Certification
Bilingualism an asset
Compensation

This is a positive and collaborative CUPE unionized workplace. Salary for this position ranges from CA$22.56 -CA$28.38 per hour and additional benefits are included.
