About the Agency:

Maggie’s Resource Centre was originally formed in response to the closure of the Madawaska Mines in the early 1980’s. Maggie’s has evolved over time and continues to operate as a not-for-profit agency, dedicated to serving women (and children) in North Hastings. Services offered include Crisis Intervention, Safety Planning, Transitional Housing Support, Counseling, Safe Placement and transportation for women and their children leaving abusive relationships, Advocacy, and Referrals to health, legal and income support resource centres and advocacy with legal and social services.

About the Position:

The Maggie’s Community Development Coordinator (CDC) will serve as a liaison with the community, promoting the organizing and sharing information about our mission and services in an effective way to broaden public awareness and increase community donations and support.  

The Maggie’s Community Development Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of the agency’s Communications and Development plan for 2023 – 2025

This is a one-year contract position from March 2023 – March 2024.

The Key Responsibilities:

Resource Development: Develop and initiate a 3-year resource development plan that includes: grants and foundations support, government funding, fundraising initiatives, donor development management, community outreach and generally outlines feasible fundraising strategies to ensure capital and annual operating needs are met. 

The Community Development Coordinator (CDC) will report to the Executive Director and will lead the organization’s fundraising strategy through identification, cultivation and solicitation from all forms of donors, including individual, corporate and in-kind.

In addition they will plan and implement recognition and appreciation activities to adequately thank, reinforce and retain long-term relationships with donors.

Communications and Outreach: Develop and initiate a 3-year communications plan that includes: the design and creation of outreach materials and information, defining key audiences and communication platforms, specific activities and timelines (for both external and internal stakeholders). The CDC will build and enhance community relationships through various speaking engagements and public awareness campaigns. In addition the CDC will develop a volunteer outreach plan that harnesses the strengths, insights and leadership of past and current clients. The CDC works as a senior team member to raise public awareness of Maggie’s Resource Centre’s efforts to support survivors fleeing violence.

Duties and responsibilities:

Fundraising:

Develop an annual Fundraising Plan for Maggies Resource Centre that includes timelines and specific measurable outcomes and includes innovative and conventional fundraising strategies to ensure capital and annual operating needs are met.

Lead the organization’s fundraising strategy through identification, cultivation and solicitation from all forms of donors, including individual, corporate and in-kind.

Communications:
Develop an annual Communications Plan for Maggies Resource Centre that includes timelines and specific measurable outcomes and includes innovative and conventional communications strategies to increase public awareness of our agency, mission and services.

Work as a senior team member to raise public awareness of Maggie’s Resource Centre’s efforts to support survivors fleeing violence while developing, implementing and evaluating new methodologies of fundraising to maximize funding opportunities and deepen donor engagement and investment in our cause.

Ensure donor tracking and correspondence systems are accurate.

Ensure all fundraising activities are in compliance with funding sources, common practices, organizational guidelines and government requirements including tax/license requirements.

Plan and implement recognition and appreciation activities to adequately thank, reinforce and retain long-term relationships with donors.

Develop and initiate a communications plan, defining key audiences, activities and timelines for both external and internal stakeholders.

Develop a communications plan as needed for specific critical issues.

Liaise with media ensuring frequent and accurate media exposure for the agency.

Engage in networking activities with community groups and key stakeholders that will provide opportunities to increase the organization’s contact network.

Build community relationships through various speaking engagements.

Create and implement a Fundraising Volunteer Program to carry out the fundraising activities of the agency.

Research grant, foundation, service clubs and government project funding opportunities and create a database.

Prepare, write, submit and monitor grant applications that are appropriate to the mission of the agency.

Other Duties:

Create, execute and evaluate the organization’s social media presence.

Participate in monthly management meetings, staff meetings and on other committees and deemed appropriate by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

Proven record in fundraising, especially in the area of major gifts.

Excellent professional writing, editing, research and verbal communications skills.

Excellent networking interpersonal and presentation skills: ability to speak to groups of people in a variety of settings including platforms used for digital presentations..

Proficient in Microsoft Office software, email, Adobe Acrobat,

Experience with fundraising software, data entry and information management.

Experience leveraging a variety of social media platforms for public awareness

Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills.

An understanding of the non-profit and social services sector is an asset.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated sensitivity to working in a culturally diverse environment.

Self-motivated and dependable.

Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate

Valid Ontario Driver’s License with $1,000,000 liability

CFRE designation is an asset.
