Rainbow Youth Out Reach – Youth Leader


As part of the Rainbow Youth Outreach Leadership Project the Belleville and Quinte West Community Health Centre is seeking 10 youth between the ages of 15- 25 who are interested in becoming leaders in their communities.

Role: The Youth Leader will support the Rainbow Youth Outreach (RYO) Leadership Project’s goal to more meaningfully engage LGBTQ2S+ youth to be leaders in their communities on issues that are central to their, and their peers’, wellbeing.

These youth leaders will work with the RYO Leadership Project Lead and the Steering Committee.

Time Commitment: Estimated from January to October, 2020, with an estimated average of 9 hours per month.

What will you do?

Learn about Community Based Research-

 Attend and participate in a two day interactive workshop to learn about research methods and strategies

Conduct Focus Groups-

 Find other youth to participate in the focus groups

 Develop, coordinate, and conduct focus groups using research techniques

 With your peers collect and analyze information about what leadership means in your community

Design a Leadership Training Program-

 Participate in the design of a LGBTQ2S+ youth leadership training program

 Assist with the development of the contents of the training, design of education materials (i.e. reading materials and/or videos) and a training plan

Participate in Leadership Training-

 Participate in training program for LGBTQ2S+ youth

Perform Community Outreach-

 With supervision, define and pursue leadership/outreach activities after the training

 Engage groups and organizations in the community to educate and advocate for LGBTQ2S+ issues and concerns


 Be 15-25 years old

 Live in Hastings County

 Experience with the challenges and barriers faced by LGBTQ2S+ youth in general, and in the County of Hastings specifically

 Interest in making a difference in your Community

 Willingness to work with others

 Prior volunteer or community engagement experience is an asset

 Good organizational and time management skills

 Good communication skills (verbal and written)
